Inspired by a Disney / Pixar animated film, the game lets players jump on board their Cars 2 favorites and follow along to exotic locations and racetracks around the world.

The story of the film continues as players choose either Martin, Lightning McQueen or one of the new characters as their character. They are taught as champion class spies at the international KROMI training center. They get dangerous missions, get to compete for the title of the world’s fastest race car, and test their abilities as spies on action-packed racetracks. Players can compete either alone or against family and friends in 1 to 4 player tournaments and unlock new tracks, characters, events and exciting spy missions. The Nintendo DS version holds awesome places not seen in the movie.

- Cars 2: The Videogame introduces the international KROMI training center (Central Crime Operations & Motorized Information Intelligence), which expands as the story progresses.
- There are 20 different characters to choose from, e.g. Martti, Salama McQueen and as new Finn McMiss and Hollie Shiftwell. Learn the skills of a champion class spy.
- Participate in dangerous simulation tasks using high-tech gadgets to dodge or stop opponents.
- Perform tricks that only the characters in the movie Cars are capable of, such as reversing, air tricks, dodging obstacles by jumping to the side, two-wheel driving and many more.
